I am a proud custodian of the breed and have its health and welfare at the heart of everything I do. I am a member of the Irish Setter Club of Americ and perform to the protocol set forth in the ISCA Principles of Integrity.
All of my breeding setters have been completely tested for Hip dysplasia, thyroid disease, eye diseases and all other diseases that are testable and prevalent in the breed.
I can and do use imported semen for the preservation of some exceptional lines. Often these lines have not been fully tested to American standards of testing, but the girl or dam will be fully tested and recorded. The foreign donor/sire will be cleared for Hips, Elbows, Thyroid and PRA.
Visit Orthopedic Foundation of America (www.offa.org) for line results or use the link below for Paw Print Genetics.
I am a preservation breeder. The below insert is from the Good Dog website and the writing of Laura Reeves.
"Knowing the history of a breed’s purpose and function, and the ability to rely on those traits, helps new dog owners select a breed that will be the best fit for their family. Purebred dogs with generations of health testing, conformation testing, temperament and instinct testing are reliable sources for picking the right dogs for your breeding program. In addition, you can predict the size, demeanor, coat color, and features of the prodigy.
The pedigree of a purebred dog tracks inexorably to a place and time shrouded now in the mists and myths of history. That smiling face, that sleek or tousled expression, that elegant or robust or diminutive stature is our link to the past. And the mission of a preservation breeder is to never allow that distant genetic memory to disappear forever.
Acquiring such a dog from a preservation breeder who guarantees the dog a home for LIFE if the new owner is unable to keep it in their home for ANY reason is one of the best ways to reduce owner surrenders to animal shelters and rescues."

The Irish Setter is a high-spirited gundog known for grace, swiftness, and a flashy red coat. They are famously good family dogs: sweet-tempered companions for the folks, and rollicking playmates and tennis-ball fetchers for the children.
The Irish Setter has been described by its partisans as the most beautiful of dog breeds. Standing more than two feet at the shoulder, with a substantial yet elegant build, the Irish is famed for a brilliant coat of mahogany or chestnut. Long, sinewy legs and powerful rear drive help to place the Irish among the swiftest of all sporting dogs.
The Irish Setter's lovable personality has endeared the breed to sportsmen and pet owners for more than 200 years.
Irish are outgoing dogs who enjoy making friends. These rambunctious redheads are big kids at heart, but they are eager to please and will respond to patient, positive training. They are said to be bold and rugged hunting partners, with a devil-may-care approach to their work.
From the AKC breed standard.
My first love was the Irish Setter via a lovely Irish Setter puppy girl that I trained and competed in obedience in 1974- call name Brandy. My next was a rescue Irish Setter that I picked up at a dog show running loose. No one claimed him, and after fleas, ticks and deworming he became a family pet name Bo Jangles. Added to these guys were the love of Seth, Susie, Misty, and Fred.
MacTavish Gordon Setters and a slew of working Border Collies to help manage the small ranch have been in my past. I bred and showed and hunted Gordon Setters and bred working Border Collies between the years of 1980-1992.
In 2018 I added Ch Lunn's Paint the Town Red MJ (aka Abbey) as my foundation. Abbey's first breeding was to the handsome and structurally sound Ch Cairncross Graceland (aka Al). In the winter of 2020, with the aid of Krista Musil of Lunn's, Abbey birth 7 babies.
One of which completed her AKC Championship at the sweet age of 8 months.
One of the areas I advocate for any dog I have owned is that they must have a chance to work and do the job that they were bred to do. Whether it is an AKC Hunt Test or Herding Test, or just a day with their owner in the field; your heart beats faster and the goose bumps rise the first time they set point on a bird or lift their first flock of sheep.
After much thoughtful research, I made the decision to add the handsome and exceptional breeding lines of Applegrove, Fairhaven and more Pendoric via Nina Calden's boy C.I.E., Latvina, Estonian, Lithuanian, and Baltic Show CH Applegrove's Foreign Affair (and a slew of many more titles) aka Amor.
Amor and Abbey produced 10 puppies on 5/6/22. 5 Boys and 5 girls. This lovely litter has been placed with exceptional owners from Pennsylvania to Florida and on to California.

Buyer Please Note:
I seriously advise you to talk personally with the breeder you are working with. Your breeder should always answer every question honestly and should always offer to assist you in the caring and nurturing of your new family member.
Our puppy questionnaire can be quite nosey. But do know that I have NO intentions on placing any of my puppies in a puppy mill or a doodle farm of any kind. I breed Purebred registrable Irish Setters in the healthiest manner possible for hunting, show and event competition and as always family pets.
Visitation to see a new puppy litter will be via appointment. Please call for your appointment 936*268*5790.

When you get your 8-10 week old puppy, please keep these images in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.
When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones.
In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in. When you're letting your puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint. You only get the chance to grow them once. A well - built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH. Once grown you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So, keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.
